Having the right equipment without the knowledge and confidence to use it could be disastrous in case of fire.

The "P.A.S.S." program of first hand training and demonstrations on the use of portable fire extinguishers is available to all Southland Fire Protection accounts and customers.

Our state licensed and trained technicians are available for on site training and demonstrations.

From the basics of how extinguishers work, what they are designed to do and where they should be located, to full training, including confidence building, demonstrations and hands on equipment activation of the different types of extinguishers available at your facility.

A fire extinguisher is an absolute necessity in any home or office. While there's a good chance that the extinguisher will sit on the wall for years, collecting dust, it could end up saving your property and even your life.

Before Fighting the Fire

bullet Keep your back to an unobstructed exit and stand 6 to 8 feet away from the fire.

bullet  Follow this 4 step procedure.

Pull the pin: This unlocks the operating lever and allows you to discharge the extinguisher. Some extinguishers

may have a different release device.

Aim low: Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire with the nozzle or hose.

Squeeze the lever: This will discharge the extinguisher's contents. To stop the discharge,

release the lever.

Sweep from side to side: Aim and keep the extinguisher at the base of the fire and sweep back and forth until

the flames appear to be out.  While doing this, move carefully toward the fire.  Repeat the process if the fire re-ignites.
